in2LOL Interviews Shushei

Shushei is a legend in the scene ever since the Season 1 Finals. After his release from Fnatic he quickly found a new team: EloHell.net. in2LOL got a chance to sit down with him and talk about his new and old teams, ECC Poland and what might be in store for the future.

Bydgoszcz is a green and open city in Poland, and is home to the fantastic Maciej 'Shushei' Ratuszniak. The 23 year old lives there with his girlfriend, but likes to keep his mother and two sisters nearby. He got into League of Legends after one of his sister's friends introduced it to him, though he recalls that he wasn't always as good as he is now, and the challenge it presented hooked him.

Shushei had a lot of experience in other games of the genre, such as HoN and DotA, and also enjoys playing MMOs. A chance encounter in solo queue with SleazyWeazy secured him a slot in SK gaming, and from there he played for Against All Authority and MyRevenge, before it transformed into FnaticRC. He enjoys archery and being outside, but doesn't pass up the chance to play new video games!


in2LOL: How did you feel after being released from Fnatic and what did you decide or think of doing first after having no team?

Shushei: Of course It wasn't easy to take especially since the decision was made when I was away. I understand that it was probably the best way to go for both team and me, since I wasn't happy as toplaner, which resulted in me underperforming and not playing as motivated as before. After I got the message I decided to focus on what I want. That is going back to playing AP carries, which fits me best in my opinion, as well as focusing on pure joy of playing such an awesome game as League of Legends ;)


How did you get into Elohell.net? They didn't have a team so far and suddenly there is the surprising news about a Polish team with the good old Shushei as AP Carry. How did all of that happen?

So, from the beginning . Kubon was expelled from MyM at that time and together we decided to try to create new team. While we had five members, it all crumbled because member A didn't want to play with member B, etc. Before we had five we asked Hosan if he wants to play with us, but other members preferred a different AD carry. So after there was two of us again, we asked Hosan if he doesn't want to try to make a team again, but he came at us with counter-offer. Since both their AD player and Top player disappeared without a trace, they offered us two spots for ECC Warsaw (Hosan was playing as AP before). And we looked for someone to send us to Warsaw and (that's where ELoHell comes in) ;) I know its owner and though that we can help each other out.


What are your thoughts on your and your team's performance at ECC Poland? How did you feel after not getting out of the group stage?

I think we could have done better than we did especially after such a good game against M5. Although after seeing our group, we kind of anticipated it's going to be really hard. We are a new team and we have a lot of space to improve on, especially out teamcomps and teamfighting skills. It can't be used as excuse, though.



What do you think how far Elohell.net could get at gamescom? And what are your expectations for your first encounter: M5?

I think we have a fair chance to qualify for finals in Los Angeles. Though it's true that our first round is going to be pretty hard, we are going to try to prepare as best as we can and win that game and continue on (the resulting) momentum ;) I hope I won't be as stressed and fail as many last hits at the beginning of the game as I did at Warsaw :D


In one of in2LOL's last interviews Froggen mentioned that a gaming house is required if you want to perform well in LoL Season 3. Is Elohell.net going to get a gaming house as well?

I think gaming house makes it a lot easier but I don't think it's necessary to compete in Season 3. So far, EloHell didn't share any plans for a gaming house with us. Of course, the perfect gaming house would preferably be in my home city :D Big, with a garden (I would never leave my dog behind), single rooms with maids and a cook and a coach, a pretty and well equipped room where we can all play together. Extra, non-gaming-related things would be that it's close to forest or lake :D (with a place where I can shoot my bow from)


Have you been practicing any specific champion to beat Alex Ich in lane? Any specific strategies?

Apart from my AP teemo mid, I have been practicing wide spectrum of AP carries :) I Will see which one fits best and play it! And we are currently working on building proper setups ;)


Who was the hardest opponent you have ever faced on top and mid lane? Which champion do you think is the most difficult to play with?

About the hardest opponent, I don't know but I have always had this hidden rivalry between Peke and me (A healthy rivalry). The champion most difficult to play with? Hmm, it's a tricky question, there are a bunch of champions that are hard to master, but I guess the assassin class would be most difficult to play, with few exceptions. I guess Peke because we have been playing together soo long and I remember, back when double AP was meta, we practiced 1on1 a lot on both top and mid lane.


What does your family think about your career as competitive LoL player and how do they support you? What do your friends think of it?

At first it was hard to explain to my mom that I want to live from playing videogames, but hey I made it so far that everyone keeps supporting me with all they have. I have no problems finding someone to take care of my doggy when I'm going to an event. And every time I get back, even if we lose, I'm welcomed. I tell people to treat it as a job and they do so.
